The owner of Khan Kebab House on Wilmslow Road, in Withington, has been handed a suspended two year prison sentence, 440 hours of unpaid work and a £900 prosecution costs, following a £71,204 VAT fraud.
Irfan Khan, 38, of Burnage, pleaded guilty to the charge of failing to register the kebab and pizza takeaway for VAT between 2012 and 2017, despite receiving warnings from HM Revenue & Customs.

Prosecutors said that the crime was actually more severe, as the stated total amount of tax unpaid only took into account online orders received via Just Eat and Hungry House - estimated to be 40% of his earnings - as there was no records kept for walk in sales.
The father of five avoided jail time after a judge heard any prison sentence would impact his family.
