Sayonara Umezushi7th Oct 2019One of Manchester's best restaurants, Umezushi, has announced its closure after seven years of trading, for "reasons, there are many, but none is worth mentioning" - although presumably two would be the effects of local bridge works, making the venue virtually inaccessible to passers by; whilst the knock on effects of a plummeting pound, being felt harder than most due to the venue's tiny size meaning they had to order ingredients from specialist importers, some via Amazon, for their daily-changing menu.
The intimate Japanese restaurant, hidden away in a railway arch opposite Manchester Arena, was described by the Observer's Jay Rayner, in September 2016 as "a bit of a diamond in the rough; a hidden temple to the worship of good things."

There is some good news though for fans of the sushi restaurant - which scored a rare 4 Stars on Restaurants Of Manchester last visit - as its Taiwanese and Polish owners Terry Huang and Hanna Michnowicz have announced "this is not the end for us. We are constantly exploring new ideas and new possibilities. We are hoping to bring you the same philosophy in a brand new setting."
The diminutive restaurant on Mirabel Street, located in a former lock-up garage so small they had to order some of their ingredients from suppliers on Amazon, will close its doors for good on October 20th.
