Rev's Fallowfield Farewell

After reporting that Manchester's Revolution Bars Group, planned to close five loss-making branches [here], the announcement has now been made that the Fallowfield unit will be one of those to go.

One of the oldest branches in their 76 branch portfolio, and home to many Freshers' parties over the years, it joins Macclesfield, Liverpool Wood Street, Lancaster, Wolverhampton, Lincoln, and Swansea in shutting its doors.

With losses of £3.6 million in 2018, the vodka bar chain, together with rum bar Revolucion de Cuba - which was started in 1991 in Ashton-under-Lyne by Roy Ellis and Neil Macleod (who both left in 2013 to open The Albert Hall, Albert's Schloss, Rudy's Neapolitan Pizza, Trof, Gorilla, and The Deaf Institute, amongst others) - has also renegotiated rent on its Manchester, Huddersfield, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Leicester properties.

The council's decision to reduce opening hours for bars in Fallowfield, in an attempt to improve policing by forcing students into the city centre at night time, is partly blamed for the loss of Revolution, amongst other venues.

Revolution are set to release full year results on 26th February 2020 with earnings expected to have improved in line with market expectations.
