Peking BlindedOcean Treasure to Close 28th Apr 2019Restaurants Of Manchester's "Best Chinese in Manchester" for the past ten years, Ocean Treasure, has announced that this Sunday, 28th April, will be its last day of trading.
Owner Simon Yip explained that it has struggled to find a place within the Peaky Blinders concept, with which it shares the former Sakana unit on Peter Street.
"Many of our established customers would complain that the noise from the bar downstairs, DJs and live music could get too loud, especially at weekends, and new customers would struggle to understand the connection with Peaky Blinders as it was hard to market the two separately, as they share the same entrance. It makes more sense to use the space for a 'country pub style' restaurant, serving Sunday Roasts and affordable British dishes instead."
The new concept is expected to open within the next few weeks and will be better integrated into the Peaky Blinders bar downstairs.
Long standing manager John "Johnny Hong Kong" Lee has already moved to legendary Chinese dim sum restaurant Tai Pan, whilst celebrated Executive Head Chef 'Milky Boy' and his team have been offered roles at Chi Yip's Ocean Treasure Seafood restaurant in Middleton; which will presumably be our first port of call as we now go in search of where to find the best char siu bao in Manchester.
As much as we understand the change in concept, Restaurants Of Manchester personally loved the idea of renaming Ocean Treasure "Peking Blinders" and we suggested turning it into a speakeasy Chinese restaurant, in the style of Mr Zhang's Chinese dry cleaning house/brothel, used by the Shelbys in the Peaky Blinders TV show.
