Michelin's Winners & Losers~ See our Best Restaurants in Manchester list ~ 8th Oct 2019Further to the news that Simon Martin's Mana has won a Michelin Star, the prestigious travel guide has revealed the other Manchester restaurants worthy of mention in its 2020 guide.
King Street tapas bar El Gato Negro was the only Manchester restaurant to be accredited with a Bib Gourmand after Stockport's Brassica Grill closed its doors in June.
Named after Bibendum - the company's nickname for "the Michelin Man" - the award highlights those restaurants offering "good quality, good value cooking" at £30 or under for 3 courses.
The guide also features eight more Manchester city centre restaurants gaining a "Good Cooking" Michelin Plate accreditation:
"Very Comfortable"
"Quite Comfortable"
"Comfortable"
"Pub, serving good food"
Meanwhile, ex-Juniper chef Paul Kitching's 21212 in Edinburgh lost its star after 11 years, whilst, closer to home, Bundobust at Piccadilly Gardens, Gary Usher's Hispi in Didsbury and Aiden Byrne's Church Green in Lymm all lost their "Good Cooking" plates.
Elsewhere, The Midland's former executive chef, Simon Rogan, was somehow overlooked once more for the elusive third star at L'Enclume in Cartmel, where he also retained a star at the neighbouring Rogan & Co. His London offering, Roganic, also kept its star. Former Abode celeb chef, Michael Caines kept his star at Lympstone Manor, whilst Tom Kerridge, who is set to open The Bull & Bear later this year in Manchester, retained his 2 Michelin Stars at The Hand & Flowers in Marlow, and one star at the neighbouring Coach pub.
Within an hour's drive from Manchester, Northcote in Langho, The White Swan in Fence, Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor, and Fraiche in Birkenhead, all kept their stars, whilst Moor Hall at Aughton kept its 2 Star status.
