King Street Hut

One of Manchester's most successful businesses, retail giant The Hut Group, has bought the iconic King Street venue which was recently vacated by Jamie's Italian, following news of their demise.

With plans to turn the ground floor and former basement vaults into a “contemporary retail and experiential marketing space”, the move will come as great news for those people concerned about the future of the Grade II listed building; built in 1933 for the Midland Bank.

Founded in 2004 by Matthew Moulding, from their base at Manchester Airport, The Hut Group has grown into one of Europe's largest online retailers; valued at over £2.9 billion.

Their portfolio includes The Hut luxury online department store, Zavvi, I Want One of Those (IWOOT), Lookfantastic, Myprotein, Coggles, Preloved, UK2 web hosting, Skinstore, Hale Country Club & Spa, and, most recently, in May 2019, the Eclectic Hotel Group, which own King Street Townhouse and Great John Street Hotel, but not Didsbury House Hotel or Eleven Didsbury Park, which were both sold before the deal could be completed.
