Hale People1st Aug 2021Well known Manchester restaurateur Adam Karim is behind the opening of another new venue, an all-day modern European restaurant in Hale.
People, has opened in the ill-fated Ashley Road premises which was home to Living Venture's Hale Grill for almost a decade, before Côte Brasserie took the vacated unit in 2017, closing barely 12 months later despite spending £1 million on renovations. Lebanese restaurant, Karam, faired even worse, surviving only ten months in 2019, however Karim doesn't seem to be put off, investing over £500,000 on the venue.
After the closure of his family's eponymous restaurant, Karims - a short-lived misplaced alcohol free Indian buffet restaurant in the spectacular venue which became Rio Ferdinand's Rosso - the serial entrepeneur was part of the team which set up the Manchester United legend's restaurant in 2009, before selling his shares in 2010 and buying the city's oldest Italian restaurant, Don Giovanni, a year later.

Under his management, Don Giovanni has gone on to be one of Manchester's busiest restaurants, thanks largely to regular 50% off deals and pre-theatre offers attracting visitors to the nearby Bridgewater Hall, Palace Theatre, Albert Hall, and Opera House.
He enjoyed less success however with Yoshake, Khana Bombay Cafe, and Didsbury Italian restaurant Cibo, and saw the license suspended in August 2020 for his Manchester franchise of the renowned Mahiki tiki bar - which he took over from Gary Neville - for operating as a nightclub during Coronavirus restrictions.
Karim also previously bought the alcohol-free Halal Rump and Ribs restaurant next to Don Giovanni, before briefly converting it to a sandwich bar. He also purchased fellow Italian restaurant Per Tutti in Castlefield in 2018, renaming it Cibo, before selling it shortly later to management.
With property interests in the Middle East, Karim says that People is inspired by his many travels, with upcycled teak furniture, terrazzo tables and banquette seating providing the ambience to enjoy a menu featuring sustainable Scottish oysters, shawarma-spiced cauliflower steaks, Josper charcoal grilled 56-day dry-aged steaks, cocktails, craft beer and plenty of champagne.
