Family Thais12th May 2019We are pleased to learn that the former 1847 Vegetarian Restaurant site on Chapel Walks would only be closed for a few days, as a family ran Thai restaurant is set to open this weekend.
Thai Kitchen no.6 will serve authentic Thai cuisine; although we can't help but feel their location, opposite celebrated plush Thai restaurant chain Chaophraya, might be a challenge; not to mention the incredibly loud music coming from the brand new Mash Tun live music venue, which has just opened above them.
"Chaophraya now have some competition", laughed their owner, May, as she explained to Restaurants Of Manchester, "it's my restaurant but you will not really see me as I will be in the back cooking."
Inspired by authentic Thai food that is normally served in Thailand but not seen on the menus of Thai Restaurants in Manchester, Thai Kitchen no.6 was originally set up as a local food delivery service in 2017, selling homemade lunch boxes to Thai and Chinese students; specialising in Tom Yum with rice and soft boiled egg. Their prices are still student friendly and they will continue to offer takeaways.
The number 6 not only represents their address, however also comes from a monk and is considered a lucky number in Thailand.
A real family affair, we wish them the best of luck, in what is becoming an ever challenging Manchester restaurant scene.
