Another of Manchester's best restaurants has closed its doors; the first of many predicted in 2020 following a tough time for many in the trade during 2019.

Thai restaurant Chaophraya quietly closed its plush Chapel Street branch over Christmas following a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) in October.

The second branch in Kim Kaewkraikhot and husband Martin Stead's Leeds company's portfolio, it originally opened in 2007, scooping the Pride Of Manchester Award for Best Restaurant in Manchester that year - a far cry from the extremely poor service we received on our last two visits.

Expanding to 21 other cities, and spawning buffet restaurant Chaobaby at The Trafford Centre and Thai streetfood eatery Thaikhun in Spinningfields, the Thai Leisure Group has hit hard times recently; not helped by some questionable local marketing decisions.

Chaobaby will now be rebranded as Thaikhun Buffet.
