Cabana Closes

Brazilian restaurant chain Cabana have gone into administration, with their "underperforming" branch at Manchester Corn Exchange, and another in Southampton, shutting immediately.

Whilst it will come as little comfort for the 36 staff in Manchester, owner Jamie Barber has restructured the casual dining Rio street food churrascaria chain, buying the five remaining London branches out of administration and absorbing them into his Hush Brasseries business.

The warning signs had been there after Cabana shut its Leeds branch only a fortnight ago, with further closures in Islington, Brixton and Newcastle last year.

The 260-cover restaurant, overlooking Cathedral Gardens and the National Football Museum, will now become vacant; although diners need not go hungry as there's plenty of choice to be had inside the Corn Exchange, including the brilliant Italian pasta chain Vapiano, Pizza Express, Mexican diner Wahaca, Asian noodle bar Tampopo, Vietnamese street food restaurant Pho, Indian diner Mowgli, Southern Italian mozzarella bar Salvi's, Gino D’Acampo's Gino's, Zizzi, Cosy Club, and Banyan Bar & Kitchen.

Berlin-inspired kebab and currywurst restaurant Döner Haus are set to open this autumn in the unit left empty by Byron Burgers, who closed their doors last year.
