Benvingut Alejandro~ Tast Manchester ~ 10th Dec 2019The amazing King Street Catalan restaurant, Tast, and its upstairs fine dining room Enxaneta have appointed a new head chef.
The restaurant, which is owned by Manchester City's Pep Guardiola, Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano, is ran by Executive Chef Paco Pérez, a master and ambassador of Catalan cuisine, who has amassed six Michelin stars in Catalonia and Berlin.
New chef, Alejandro Calvo worked for Paco at the 2 Michelin-starred Enoteca in the Hotel Arts, Barcelona, before spending seven years at his most recent Michelin starred property, Terra in S’Agaró, which won accreditaion in November 2019.
The announcement follows shortly after Michelin's 2019 Guide controversially and inexcusably ignored Enxaneta (and Adam Reid at The French), with Alejandro replacing the talented Miquel Villacrosa - the former Head Chef at Paco's Michelin Starred Cinco in Berlin - who has returned to Spain to complete his studies in Paediatrics.
Interestingly Alejandro, who comes from Santander, had never been to Manchester before his appointment. We can only guess that Pep had failed to inform him about the weather.
"This is my first time living in the UK and my first time in Manchester and I’m really excited to be here," he said.
"At Tast we have a real opportunity to make a name for ourselves as one of the restaurants that is leading the city in its culinary revolution and I’m glad to be a part of it.
"Every single member of the Tast team, from front of house staff to my team in the kitchen, to the directors, lives and breathes the Barcelona vibe that we’re creating in the restaurant. Everyone has a true passion for the food and wants to prove that we’re worthy of being one of the best restaurants in Manchester."
