Following the closure of vegan restaurant Folk & Soul, veggie favourite 1847 has also now closed its doors after being sold by founder Damien Davenport, who is relocating to the South of France.
It is not yet clear if the new owner will be operating the same plant-led ethos, however there definitely will need to be a rebranding, as the chefs and sous chefs of the Birmingham branch have bought the 1847 name and will continue trading as such.
Originally opened on Mosley Street in 2010 before relocating to Chapel Walks in 2017, and spawning further restaurants in Chorlton, Birmingham, Bristol and Brighton, the excellent vegetarian restaurant - which was named after the year the National Vegetarian Society formed in Salford - lead the way in meat free dining and will be a sad loss at a time everybody else seems to have jumped on to the bandwagon.
