Chaophraya
Thai Restaurant Manchester - reader comments |
"This
was the first visit for 5 out of 6 of us to Chaophraya and
everybody was very impressed. The restaurant
offered great food and atmosphere and we
were really well looked after. Highly recommended."

| "We
called in to Chaophraya on the off chance, hoping to get a
table, but not too confident as there were 6 of us and it
was early Saturday evening. They found us a table and the
staff were excellent, really friendly and very helpful
with the menus etc. The food arrived in good time and we weren't
disappointed as it was all excellent. I'd definitely
go again and would recommend to everyone!"

"After
all the talk about Chaophraya, I was really looking forward
to eating there. After fretting about what to order, we decided
to get a Banquet to share between three of us. The starters
were good, and arrived quickly but the mains were a little
disappointing, and were greasy for some of the dishes. The
Green Curry was good, but was a little too rich for my own
tastes. The Pad Thai was nice, but that was very greasy, which
is not very pleasant. The staff seemed to force the drinks
on us a little, but after the amount of food we got for £20
each, we couldn't really stomach it! Overall, for the price,
the food was OK however, I wouldn't go out of my way to return."

| "Whilst
my wife and I had a great meal at Chaophraya, the food
was absolutely top notch - it was our wedding anniversary,
so quite a special night - we were in and out of the restaurant
within 45 minutes! This was for a starter and a main course.
We were left with an empty table and the feeling that we should
leave, such were the looks we were getting from the staff
who had previously been queuing up to snatch our plates as
soon as the last mouthful had been eaten! Not the most romantic
of experiences at all... which was a shame really, because
it was supposed to be the highlight of the night."

| "We
ordered the £30 banquet at Chaophraya. The food was
good but no better than in other Thai restaurants we've
visited and the prices were certainly a lot higher. The major
issue was with the waiting staff who looked bored, and one
girl actually rolled her eyes at me when I asked to see the
dessert menu. A bill was put on our table before the dessert
even came and we felt really rushed to leave. Overall, Chaophraya
was OK but I wouldn't go back."

"Chaophraya
never fails to delight. Another evening of excellent
food and attentive service. This time Mr B & I were
entertaining 4 guests from Norway who have previously visited
Thailand. As always we received a warm greeting and were shown
to our table, settled in with menus and our drinks order promptly
taken. Our table was a quiet round table, as requested, and
a great size. Our waitress was attentive and helpful without
ever rushing us. Our guests were impressed with the choice
of dishes available. We opted for mixed starters and followed
the waitress' advice to order 4 rather than 6 - an excellent
suggestion as there was ample for all and they were proclaimed
delicious. We had 6 different main courses together
with various rice accompaniments. All were excellent and my
coconut rice and Prawn Curry with fruit were sublime.
Mr B is a lamb connoisseur and was delighted with his Thai
Spiced Shank which was so tender it fell off the bone. If
you order this, consider skipping the rice - it comes with
a generous portion of vegetables including roast pumpkin.
The other dishes of Thai Spiced Pork, Prawn Fried Rice and
Pad Thai were proclaimed excellent. Despite it being
a busy Friday evening, we never felt rushed or under any pressure
to leave our table. The bill was accurate, the added service
charge well deserved and the total cost extremely good
value. Once again Chaophyra delivered an outstanding
experience and we look forward to many more."

| "I
went to Chaophraya for my birthday with a group of friends.
There was a great atmosphere, great service
(although staff could have smiled a little more) but food
was fantastic, especially the Mixed Starter, which out
did any other mixed oriental starter I have tried before.
The food was delicious and plenty of it. Can't wait
to go back again."

| "We
actually stumbled across Chaophraya on our way for one more
drink before dinner. As we have been to Thailand on numerous
occasions we felt we would like to capture the essence of
our holdays so we decided to eat there. It was lovely
really brought back memories of our Thai holidays.
And as it's our 30th wedding anniversary this May we will
certainly be having a meal at Chaophraya with the family before
we go off to Thailand."

| "We
arrived at Chaophraya having booked a table for 9.15pm and
were promptly seated ten minutes earlier. The staff were
very friendly and efficient. Being novices to the Thai
cuisine, we ordered the set menu at £25p/h. The appetisers
were excellent and varied from king prawns to satay chicken.
Hot & Sour Soup followed and although I enjoyed it very
much, my girlfriend found it rather too hot for her liking.
Then the main courses. These comprised of a beef dish, pork,
chicken and fish. The Sea Bass was to die for and every dish
had its own unique flavour and was not lost to anything more
overpowering. The perfect combination! The overall experience
was excellent and the portions were more than enough
for two people. Highly recommended."

| "We
read that the service was excellent at Chaophraya which is
why we went. However, this was not the case for us. Our waitress
only smiled for her colleagues. When serving the rice she
literally threw it on the plates while looking elsewhere.
Then, when we were paying, she tried to take the money away
whilst I was still counting it out on to the plate. She started
to clean the table as we started to stand up which was very
rude. Even the women on the next table looked shocked. Not
what you'd expect from the supposedly best restaurant in Manchester,
or any restaurant in fact. The service for this reason was
very disappointing. We said nothing at the time. This
waitress needs more training. We were seated at 6.30pm
and even left the table at 7.55pm in plenty of time for the
next customers, as they wanted the table back for 8.30pm.
How horrible to be treated like that and have to pay."

"Had
a wonderful meal at Chaophraya, everyone was happy
with their food. The staff are incredibly polite and
explained things to us. Everything was made freshly and you
could tell by the flavours and smells. For a city centre restaurant
I thought the price was very good and was excellent
value for money. Definitely one of the best restaurants
in Manchester we will certanly return (hopefully soon)."

| "I
asked for the chilli seeds to be taken out of a Thai salad
I had ordered at Chaophraya and it arrived full of chilli
seeds! The waitress wasn't happy to have to change
it and was quite grumpy when I pointed out the problem. The
rest of the food was nice but the ribs went cold very
quickly on the table. Maybe if the plate was warm they wouldn't
have done so."

"My
husband and I had a very enjoyable meal at Chaophraya.
We had the mixed starter to share that was delicious. I had
the crab dish, Kah Pad Pou that was good. It had crab claws,
which I wasn't expecting, I assumed the crab would be shredded
into the rice. Certainly different, however the rice
dish was very bland, so I would try something else next time.
My husband's however was delicious, he had the Pad Prik Sod,
(Word of warning - try to avoid eating too many chilli peppers,
they are very hot!) We finished off the meal by sharing some
Deep Fried Coconut Ice Cream that was unusual, tasty and definitely
a sharing dish. The restaurant and bar have a great ambience.
You do have to reserve a table in advance. The staff were
very polite and professional, just lacked a little
friendliness. I would recommend you try this restaurant;
there is a huge choice on the menu, which makes you want to
go back again to try something new."

| "We
came to Manchester for our 3rd year wedding anniversary and
wanted a treat. We choose Chaophraya after reading Restaurants
Of Manchester and we were not disappointed. First time
we've had Thai and loved it, but with having 3 children
don't normally endulge in such fine food. Thanks."

| "The
evening we went to Chaophraya was that of the Police concert.
The bill presented was something like £78, and should
have been £52. I never look at receipts, but my wife
looked and noticed that they had charged for a Lobster Main
course, the most expensive option on the menu. They did not
apologise, just changed the bill. I would say that I am more
the suspicious of this mischarge, mainly because they took
the error so much in their stride. Just readjusting the bill
to the correct amount. I would have thought that at the very
least they would have not charged for my wife's meal. I don't
know what is normal practice, in this situation, but can't
say I felt they cared about the error."
