Back in October, Cottonopolis invited you to follow the fire and embark on a journey that would take you to a secret location, to indulge in an eight-course dining experience, the details of which were kept a secret until the night.

Following the success of that Secret Supper, they have announced three further events in February, April and June 2018, starting on Thursday 22nd, Friday 23rd & Saturday 24th February. Each event will deliver a completely unique and innovative concept, with their own immersive theme and imaginative menu.  [more info]

Adam Reid At The French

Michelin Star Chef at The French

Following the success of 2017's chef collaborations, Adam Reid at The French will be hosting a further series of special evenings throughout  2018, kicking off next Wednesday, the 31st January, with former Michelin star holder and Great British Menu contestant Tim Allen.

The former Executive Chef of the Michelin-starred Wild Rabbit in Kingham, Oxfordshire, had previously served as chef-patron at D&D London’s Launceston Place in Kensington, which was awarded four AA rosettes and a Michelin star during his tenure.  [more info]

Pen & Pencil
Pug Paw-ty

For one day only, Pug Cafe & The Pen and Pencil have teamed up to invite the pugs and pug crosses of Manchester (and their humans) to celebrate Chinese New Year at their Pug Paw-ty to help celebrate the Year of the Dog.

The pug was the prized pet of the Emperors of China and lived a lap of luxury; they were even given the same status as their wives - spoilt and treated just like royalty!

Guests at this strictly booking-only event, on 4th March 2018, can look forward to a beautiful Chinese-themed New Year venue, Chinese-inspired doggy treats, and plenty of chances for their pug to party with their new friends.  [more info]

More Burgers!?!  Honestly!?!
London chain Honest Burgers, have not been put off by the massive number of burger bars (and burger bar closures) in Manchester, announcing plans to take the Garage Bar unit at the stunning Manchester Hall after Pintura, the Leeds Basque-inspired pinchos bar, pulled out.

El Gat2 Negro

Whilst we won't be getting pinchos in Manchester, we are possibly set to get more Spanish cuisine, as Michelin Bib Gourmand tapas purveyor, El Gato Negro, are rumoured to be the latest name with plans to open a branch in Ancoats. Although by the time you read this, the rest of the city has probably followed suit.

Taking the empty unit next to Rudy's Neapolitan Pizza, which for years was earmarked for the illusive Wild Goose Fat & Garlic restaurant, they are looking at a more casual affair than their King Street offering and have previously mentioned a Pico Pico concept, blending Spanish, Persian, North African and Middle Eastern cuisines.

Tofan's Ventures

When Manchester House announced that Senior Sous Chef Nathanial Tofan was to replace Aiden Byrne as Head Chef in September 2017, expectations were high of the 28 year old who was instrumental in the conception of both Australasia, and Manchester House itself; having spent six months in the development kitchen, forging and fine tuning dishes ahead of the venture’s launch back in 2013.

“We are delighted to confirm Nat’s appointment as Head Chef at Manchester House. Developing people is what Living Ventures is all about and Nat has earned his stripes”, said Living Ventures CEO Jeremy Roberts, at the time.

Today, Restaurants Of Manchester were lucky enough to sample some of the Nottingham-born chef's brand new 2018 Tasting Menu and, based on our experience, his dishes are right up there with anything else available in the region.

Everything was brilliantly executed, from the Sourdough with Beurre Noisette and crispy chicken skin to the Millionnaire’s Sandwich - a dish, which in terms of presentation, took us back to the Manchester Tart dessert on the original Manchester House Tasting Menu, way back in 2013 and offered a savoury interpretation, with the classical and luxurious flavours of fois gras, truffle and Sauternes jelly, with added texture from pistachios.

A snack dish of raw beef followed, delivering a smoky BBQ-like hit from the coal oil coating, with a good richness delivered by egg yolk, all carried in a mini crispy taco shell.  Pure flavour and, texture wise, this was our favourite dish.

A Turbot, White Soy & Verjus looked full of finesse on the plate, and demonstrated more solid cooking and precise flavour balancing, whilst the conclusion of Sea Buckthorn, Yoghurt & Lemon, looked fantastic, displaying minimalistic confidence in its plating.  Flavour wise, the citrus hinted tart was balanced well with a slightly tart rocher of yoghurt, sat atop semi-sweet crumble which also added some texture to the plate.  A great way to end any meal.

We will without question be back to sample the full 12 course version of the Tasting Menu, which is still priced at £95. A cheaper 8 Course option is available at £75, whilst you can see Manchester House evolve further under Nat’s direction with a 2 course lunch priced at just £24.50. [more info]

Elnecot Manchester
A History Of Ancoats

With the entire Manchester restaurant and bar scene seemingly relocating to Ancoats, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the area is new, however the story of the Northern Quarter's new fashionable suburb is one that is integral to both Manchester's and Britain's industrial history.

Dating back to 1212, the small settlement of just a few dwellings was called "Elnecot"; a name derived from the Old English 'Ana Cots' or 'lonely cottages'. Fast forward 805 years, and the name has been revived by the neighbourhood diner that has most of the city's foodies talking.

With 30% Off food in January, there's no better time to explore "the world's first industrial suburb" and see why Elnecot has those in the know a tad excited. [more info]

Blue Pig closes

Blue Pig Flies

We are sad to report what appears to be the first high profile Manchester hospitality casualty of the year.  In what is sending shock waves through the industry, one of the city's most popular bar groups have unexpectedly closed all three of their remaining sites, Odd and The Blue Pig in the Northern Quarter, and Oddest in Chorlton.  The Bohemian bar that arguably kickstarted the Northern Quarter's popularity will be sadly missed.

St Michael's Manchester

St Michaels Marches On

Gary Neville's controversial St Michaels Tower project between Jackson’s Row and Bootle Street has been redesigned with revised planning permission submitted, which seem to have taken on board many objections. These include keeping the facade of the historic Bootle Street Police Station and Sir Ralph Abercrombie pub, rather than demolishing them as was originally planned. The development's height has been scaled back and moved on to a plinth further along the street so as not to overpower local, historic buildings, such as the Town Hall and Central Library.

As well as the city's most expensive luxury apartments, it will also house a five star hotel, a new synagogue, office space, shops, bars, restaurants, and a huge rooftop garden.

Nogo Soho

Exclusive private member's club Soho House, which has 18 branches in London, New York, Miami, Barcelona, Berlin, and other glam locations around the world, has pulled the plug on its plans for Manchester.  The launch of their new Mollie's Motel and Diner 'roadside restaurant and hotel concept', as reported in April 2017, is still to go ahead.

Tim Allen Out
The planned venture at the City Suites apartment hotel on Chapel Street, Salford, from Michelin Star chef Tim Allen (not to be confused with the "Home Improvement" star) has collapsed after he is rumoured to have pulled out of the collaboration.
