"As Space is primarily a bar rather than a restaurant, we weren't greeted by anyone at the door and it wasn't obvious whether we should sit down ourselves or wait to be taken to a table. We decided to take a seat and found the menus already on the table. Again it wasn't clear if we had to order at the bar or if there was table service. No one seemed to be waiting on, so we went to place the order at the bar but were given the instructions that the waitress was taking orders from the tables. She walked us all the way back to the table, took our order and then returned to the bar again. I ordered a Hot Sandwich Baguette with bacon, chicken and salad. It tasted OK but was dissapointing, two small wholemeal baguettes with a little chicken and bacon and some salad. The salad was not fresh, so I left it on the side. When she was around, the waitress was friendly however she disappeared once again when we wanted to pay, so we settled at the bar when leaving. Overall, on this visit at least, Space is not a great restaurant, however it's bar food and is very cheap (£3.25 for a sandwich!!!), so you can't really complain. It's good for a quick lunch break and is popular with students who largely populate this area." - ingun, manchester 13/5/09 (visited on a friday lunch) |
