"This
was our first visit to Market Restaurant. The wait-staff
were friendly and the decor is cosy and homely.
However there was a large group dining near us and it just
didn't seem to fit in a little restaurant where most other
diners were couples. The beef stew was average. It
was basically just beef in a thick (glutenous) sauce, where
I was expecting some kind of root vegetables in the dish.
I thought it of ironic that no vegetables were in the stew
as the walls are covered with artwork advertising to eat more
vegetables. The stew was so hot I burned my lip on it and
had to let it sit for quite some time. The stew was served
with a side of chips (they were nice) and two lonely lettuce
leaves that were not dressed. The wine list offered a reasonable
choice and we settled for an Italian red which proved an excellent
choice. We would visit again, although probably not for a
while. I definitely think the homely feel of the place, and
the friendly and helpful staff are this restaurants selling
point. But to be honest, we expected the food to be of a higher
standard!"
